Snowflake makes querying semantic views generally available

Snowflake made direct SQL queries against semantic views generally available. Snowflake Intelligence entered public preview earlier in August.

On August 25, 2025, Snowflake made querying semantic views with SQL generally available.

What shipped

  1. Semantic view queries, generally available. SQL can ask a semantic view for metrics by dimension, and Snowflake works out the joins and aggregation.
  2. Snowflake Intelligence, public preview, from August 1.

Why it matters

When people and agents query the same semantic view, they get the same number. An analyst writing SQL and an agent answering a question in chat stop drifting apart because one of them joined the tables differently.

That shared path is also a shared dependency. Change a definition in the view and every query, human or agent, sees the change at once. Good practice treats a semantic view change the way it treats an API change: reviewed, versioned and announced to the people who rely on it.
