Snowflake previews a managed MCP server

Snowflake put a managed MCP server into preview, letting MCP clients call Cortex Analyst and Cortex Search with Snowflake governance.

On October 1, 2025, Snowflake released a managed MCP server in preview.

What was announced

  1. A Snowflake-hosted MCP server, so teams do not deploy and run their own.
  2. Cortex Analyst and Cortex Search as tools, reachable from any MCP client.
  3. Snowflake access controls apply to every call.

Why it matters

Every major data platform now has a hosted MCP endpoint or one on the way. Agents built in one vendor's framework can reach data in another vendor's platform without custom code.

That makes the semantic model behind Cortex Analyst more visible than before. Agents that were never designed with Snowflake in mind will now rely on it. Teams should know which semantic models are exposed, who maintains each one and how changes get reviewed.
