Open Semantic Interchange publishes its first specification
The Open Semantic Interchange published version 1 of its specification under the Apache 2.0 license, and Databricks joined. Databricks managed MCP servers also reached public preview.
Four months after it was announced, the Open Semantic Interchange has a specification anyone can read. OSI published v1 on January 27, 2026.
What was announced
- OSI specification v1, released under Apache 2.0 at github.com/open-semantic-interchange/OSI.
- Databricks joined OSI.
- In the same week, Databricks managed MCP servers moved to public preview.
Why it matters
A spec on GitHub under an open license is something teams can test and build against today, not a promise. Four months from announcement to v1 is fast for a standard.
Databricks joining matters more than the date. A semantic interchange standard is only as useful as the platforms that read and write it. With Snowflake and Databricks both members, a definition built in one has a path into the other.
