On August 25, 2025, Snowflake made querying semantic views with SQL generally available.

## What shipped

1. **Semantic view queries, generally available.** SQL can ask a semantic view for metrics by dimension, and Snowflake works out the joins and aggregation.
2. **Snowflake Intelligence, public preview**, from August 1.

## Why it matters

When people and agents query the same semantic view, they get the same number. An analyst writing SQL and an agent answering a question in chat stop drifting apart because one of them joined the tables differently.

That shared path is also a shared dependency. Change a definition in the view and every query, human or agent, sees the change at once. Good practice treats a semantic view change the way it treats an API change: reviewed, versioned and announced to the people who rely on it.
